 Top 10 Rom Coms of the 2010s

Any film fanatic loves a good throwback movie, one that reminds them of a great time in their life. For us, these memorable throwbacks are some of the greatest rom-coms from the 2010s.




1. Friends with Benefits (2011)

The story takes place in New York City based on the lives and the relationship between Jamie (Mila Kunis) and Dylan (Justin Timberlake). Dylan is an art director who lives in Las Angeles meets Jamie, who is an executive recruiter, in New York and convinces him to take a job at the GQ Magazine New York office. They find that they have quite a few similarities and decide to become friends until their relationship becomes complicated once they add a romantic element to it. 






2. Silver Linings Playbook (2012)

The story follows Pat (Bradley Cooper) who gets admitted into a mental health institution because of an incident that gets him in trouble with the law. He then gets discharged but one of his conditions is that he has to move back in with his parents in Philly. He struggles with continuing mandatory therapy sessions and taking his medications, which he doesn't take. He decides to focus on setting out to achieve his goals to find the "silver linings" in his life. His goals are to get his prior job as a substitute teacher back but more primarily to get his ex-wife back, Nikki, who also has a restraining order against him. He meets Tiffany (Jennifer Lawrence) who help each other try and reach their individual goals but along the way, it seems they have realigned their goals. 






3. To All the Boys I've Loved Before (2018) 

A high school student, Lara Jean Covey (Lana Condor), lives a boring regular life until one-day love letters she wrote to her past crushes get sent to each of them. These letters were sent out by her younger sister, Kitty (Anna Cathcart), in hopes of making her life a little bit more exciting. Amongst the receivers of these letters are Josh, her older sister's boyfriend, and Peter Kavinsky who is her enemy, Gen's, boyfriend. While her life becomes more exciting, maybe not in the best ways, she may find herself finding a real relationship. 






4. Love Simon (2018) 

A high school senior, Simon Spier (Nick Robinson), has led a normal regular life. He has an amazing tight-knit friend group, Nick, Abby, and Leah. He has loving and supportive parents along with a friend group anyone else would want. But, there is one aspect of his life that is not shown in the light. Simon is gay yet no one knows. He knows that his parents and family will support him and treat him no differently but he struggles to come out due to the changes that may come in his life thus far. He finds that a classmate calling himself "Blue" has been posting online anonymously about being gay yet closeted. Simon and Blue begin corresponding anonymously through email and Simon finds himself gaining feelings for this person despite not knowing his true identity. While Simon attempts to find out the identity of this Blue he runs into some obstacles and complications. 






5. Crazy, Stupid, Love (2011) 

Cal (Steve Carrol) and Emily (Julianne Moore) have a family together and life seems to be going well for them considering they have been married for 25 years. Cal is shocked when Emily demands a divorce and he soon finds out that she has been having an affair. Cal meets Jacob who is listening to him talk about his hardships in his relationship and his life and decides to help Cal. He gives him a makeover and teaches him how to get back out there and talk to women. Cal does so but realizes he still loves Emily and wants to go back to her.






6. Playing It Cool (2014)

This film is based on a screenwriter who is working on a script for a romantic movie. The problem is that he has a hard time understanding love because his mother abandoned him when he was younger. After struggling with relationships he turns to his friends to hear about their experiences with love and relationships. After this not being enough he meets a girl who he starts gravitating towards but she's an engaged woman. 






7. Just Go with It (2011)

Danny (Adam Sandler) after a failed relationship is not looking for a serious relationship. So every girl he talks to he tells them that he is married because he wants to avoid commitment. But he meets a different girl, Palmer. She found out that he was "married" but he didn't want to end their relationship so he told her that he was getting a divorce. Palmer insists on meeting Danny's wife so he asks his manager to pretend to be his wife. 






8. Tyler Perry's: Why Did I Get Married Too? (2010)

This story follows four couples who are reuniting in the Bahamas to catch up and talk about their lives over the past year. The story gets interesting when someone's ex-husband arrives in hopes of breaking up one's marriage and getting back together with her. Along this trip, each of the four couples realized they each had their complications and worked to fix their imperfections. 






9. Leap Year (2010)

Anna (Amy Adams) has been with her boyfriend for quite some time and year after year anniversaries pass without her boyfriend proposing. She is often told of a story from her father about an Irish tradition where a woman can propose to their spouse on February 29th of a leap year. Anna decides to surprise her boyfriend in Dublin, who is in a conference, so she can propose to him. She faces many challenges on her journey to Dublin. 






10. Trainwreck (2015)

Amy (Amy Shumar) has a complicated relationship with her father but one thing that stuck from his teachings was that monogamy is not realistic. She goes out drinking and is with different partners while having a boyfriend, Steven. Steven believes they are exclusive but that is farthest from the truth. While she is on the verge of a promotion working for a magazine company she follows a story about a sports doctor, Aaron. After their entanglement Amy finds herself wanting to date this man, maybe it is time for her to change.
